San Isidro, Matagalpa

The municipality of San Isidro is a small town with beautiful houses. Is located 117 kilometres from the city of Managua.
Bordered to the north by La Trinidad, to the south by Ciudad Darío, to the east by Sébaco
and to the west by the municipalities of El Jicaral, Santa Rosa del Peñón and San Nicolás.
A major part of San Isidro’s territory is part of the indigenous community of Sébaco
And the main economic activity is agriculture, but especially rice production for export, which accounts for 70.5% of national production.

Traditional crafts

Learn about artisanal gold mining, where you will learn the process of gold extraction in a traditional way, The mines you can visit are located in the communities of Las Mangas, Aguas Frias, Winston Castillo, Santa Isabel, Tatascame and La Union.

Visit the wood workshops, where different furniture is made for domestic and decorative use, and you will learn about the manufacturing process.

Other trades are artisanal river fishing and brick-making workshops.

How to get there?

Can be reached by chicken buses leaving from Mercado El Mayoreo bus terminal in Managua to Estelí, Ocotal or Somoto, you should ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance.
Within the municipality, you can be transported in caponeras or cabs to the place of your choice.

If you are travelling in a private vehicle, take the Panamerican Highway North towards the department of Matagalpa, and when you reach the junction of Sébaco take the road to Estelí and continue towards San Isidro following the signs.
