Education Plus July 2020 Newsletter

Dear friends and family,

We are so thankful.

This past May, during our matching grant campaign, and in June, you came together to raise a total of $59,245 total towards feeding our children and community. This infusion of funds has allowed us to improve the nutrition in the packages we give out to our children and do two community food distributions so far.  While the first community food distribution was just rice and cooking oil due to our limited budget, our last community feeding contained a variety of food items to help our families get through the month of July.

Have a look at the video and photos below!

Due to the still worsening crisis in Nicaragua, we must continue to raise crucial funds to purchase food for those in need.  To make a donation, please click on the link below, and share with your family and friends.  Every dollar you donate will go directly towards feeding those who urgently need your help.

Please know that no donation is too small to help during this crisis. Even just $1 can keep a child from going hungry for days.

After our last student distribution, we ended up with some extra tomatoes, onions, and rice, so Program Coordinator Alicia asked the older students, as a social activity, to distribute what we had left to families in the area that are in need right now (pictured on the right).  They were very excited and happy to do this activity as they know better than us the needs that the community is facing right now.  Our Home Visit Team Leader, Carla, accompanied them while they were distributing the food, always wearing gloves, masks and face shields.

Thank you to everyone who has helped to feed our community over the past several weeks.  Your food aid has been a true lifeline for our community.  When people are seeing their neighbors die “left and right” and also have no food to feed their families, just receiving a bag of rice can bring them to tears.  Please know how life changing your donations have been.

We will leave you with the words of another of our Local Board Members, father of three Education Plus Students Damasio Bermudez:

“We really are happy to receive anything, we can use all that is given to us, it is a blessing. Thank you to God and to Casa de los Sueños for all that you do for us.”

With more gratitude than words can express,

Monica and Jim, Keeley and the staff and families of Education Plus Nicaragua

PS. If you have a second, please have a look at and share our new Coronavirus Wishlist 🙏
