Corazón Contento Update June 2020

Dear Friend of Corazon Contento,

I hope that this finds you safe, healthy, and able to get out and enjoy the lovely spring weather, despite the demands of our current challenging times.

This is to bring you up to date on the work of Corazon Contento and to request your continued support for the Center.

In these times, Corazon Contento has taken extraordinarily creative steps to continue to deliver the services for which our participating families count on us.  While the onsite Center has been temporarily closed in order to protect the safety of staff and families during the COVID pandemic, remote services to our 325 participants has continued.  The Corazon program has been successfully reimagined through utilization of remote media including Facetime, WhatsApp and Zoom.  Using these media, staff has continued to work with our participants and families, providing professional psychological and physiotherapy support remotely.  This work provides a net for participants and for training their families that is unique in the community, and provides for continued employment of our talented and dedicated staff.

In this picture we can see one of our Autistic students in a videocall with her teacher.

Not having materials is not an excuse for our parents. We encourage them to work with what they have.

One of our Moms drew this on the ground to work with her ADAH child at home.

While born of unfortunate necessity, we are excited about the future potential of our remote program, designing it in such a way that it can augment on-site services when we are once again able to treat in person.

Financial support for Corazon’s services is critical at this time because while the need for participant families is unabated, many sources of funding have been stretched thin or even eliminated by the many extraordinary needs presented by the pandemic.  Through careful management and a willingness to affect every possible cost savings while retaining the integrity of the program, Board and Staff have together developed a plan to continue services in the short to medium term.  But the need for additional funding is both critical and urgent for the Center to be able to continue to serve its population even through the end of the year.

Fortunately, one very generous long-time supporter has stepped up to offer a Matching Fund to help us through this difficult transition timeThis means that every dollar donated to Corazon Contento up to a total of $25,000.00 by the end of the year will be doubled. Your donation of $100 will become $200 to Corazon; your donation of $500 will become $1000; $1000 becomes $2000.

You have already been a good friend to Corazon.  You know the lifesaving work the Center does for children, families and the whole community.  I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to send a gift and amplify your generosity through the Matching Fund.  You will be amplifying the good you provide to the Center.  You will be amplifying the critical work that the Center provides.

With sincere thanks for the help and support you have provided to Corazon over time.  And with thanks in advance for your help and financial support as we navigate through this challenging and exciting time.
