Corner of Love April 2020

Dear Everyone,

At Corner of Love, we believe in the power of mission: to heal God’s people, speak up for the oppressed, and help everyone find a way to make a difference in our hurting world. Even during the most difficult circumstances we have a track record of adapting our services to current needs and right now we are doing just that.    With COVID19 now declared a global pandemic, we have worked quickly to equip our workers to keep assisting refugees and have increased communication with displaced families to almost once a day.

Our first action was an information campaign via text reinforcing prevention suggestions to aid refugees in understanding the gravity of the situation and how to protect their families against COVID19. Nicaraguan and Venezuelan refugees trust us, and our instantaneous reaction to the pandemic allowed prevention information to directly reach refugee homes via text throughout Latin America.    Next we purchased face masks and groceries for hundreds of the most vulnerable people we serve. This was not an easy task because Corner of Love has over 11,000 client families in Costa Rica alone. We are proud of our native coordinators who painstakingly combed through contacts to make sure this assistance reached those whose pre-existing conditions make them highest risk.

Though we are busy as ever at our Relief Center and delivering Mobile Services, we cannot help but think of all of you back home who are the backbone of this ministry. Some of you are in the eye of the COVID19 storm, like those in Seattle, New York, and California. Others are reaching out to us to keep us informed about stay-at-home campaigns, prayer chains for healthcare friends, and slowdowns throughout the world.  It is almost unbelievable what is going on, isn’t it? But as Christ-followers we know that we should cast all our anxiety on the Lord because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7) and remember that God is with us through deep waters (Isaiah 43:2).

It is possible that this worldwide focus on life over material gain will have beautiful silver-linings, and so, this is what we are praying for now:    That God will show us how things are actually falling together while it feels like they are falling apart   AND   That our collective LOVE for the world’s most vulnerable people, like the refugees we serve, will GROW – even when our own households experience tumultuous times.     Stay tuned for a message from us in the coming days about powerful collective actions we can take together to help refugees in the midst of COVID19.   Our hearts are with you!

MISSION TRIPS
Due to extreme circumstances, as listed in Terms and Conditions of Corner of Love’s Mission Application for Trip to Costa Rica, our ministry is RESCHEDULING all weeks of service. If you were registered for a 2020 trip between March-June, you will automatically be able to reschedule for a future trip within 18 months. To make serving easier, all paid trip fees are 100% transferrable to other individuals (not just family members) making it possible for you to “give your mission” to someone else if you no longer can attend a future trip.

MOST NEEDED
We are currently purchasing as much as four times the amount of food our mission normally buys. Please give towards FOOD for REFUGEES today.
