PRESCRIPTION DRUGS, ARE THEY SAFE ?

     Most individuals think that any drug a Doctor prescribes is safe to use, well this is far from the truth.  In this article I hope to enlighten my readers in regards to prescription drugs.

Released data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) prescription drugs are now killing far more people than illegal drugs.  Depressants, opioids and antidepressants are responsible for more overdose deaths (45%) than cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and amphetamines (39%) combined in the United Stated.

In 2009, there were nearly 4.6 million drug-related visits to U.S. emergency rooms nationwide, with more than half due to adverse reactions to prescription medications, most of which were being taken exactly as prescribed. The United States makes up 5% of the worlds population and consumes 75% of the worlds prescription drugs.

All drugs are essentially poisons and the amount taken will determine the effect the drug has on you.  Prescription drugs can be just as addictive as illegal drugs. In fact, in many cases there’s no difference between a street drug and a prescription drug. For example, hydrocodone, a prescription opiate, is synthetic heroin. It’s indistinguishable from any other heroine as far as your brain and body is concerned. So, if you’re hooked on hydrocodone, you are a heroin addict.

Here is just one example of a prescribed drug that caused over 60,000 deaths. It took five years before Merck made its $30-billion recall of the pain killer Vioxx.  They had more than $5.5 billion in judgments and fines levied against them.

The thyroid drug Synthroid (levothyroxine), which treats hypothyroidism, continues to be the United States most prescribed drug so I went to google to find the side effects of this drug that over 21 million persons are taking each month.  There was listed over 25 common side effects of this drug, too many to list here, but here are two of the 25 listed, extreme fatigue and high blood pressure. There was 8 listed for rare side effects, here are two of the eight, limp or walk favoring one leg and seizures.

What is the solution to this major problem facing us today?

Yes there is a risk of side effects when one takes any kind of drug.  But I suggest before you decide to follow the Doctors orders and take his prescribed drug, that you look up the side effects of the drug you are thinking of taking. Many times the side effects are worse than the problem you are taking the drug for.  But I believe a better solution is to adopt a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet, exercise, etc. and see if the problem or problems you are experiencing go away.  If they do not, go on line and do some research on replacing the prescribed medicine with a herb that many times will work just as good or better than the described drug and the herb will normally not have any side effects.

Conclusion:

With prescribed drugs in the United States killing more individuals than street drugs each year it seems it would be much better to find a safer alternative to prescribed drugs.  I recommend doing some research on the internet for a natural way to treat whatever health problem you may have.
