Lesson 15 by George Wu

SENTENCING
Spanish sentences are different from ours. How? It’s the same subject verb object or complement but in Spanish they tend to inject a preposition specifically for that purpose. Why? Every preposition serves a particular reason. So what? If you use the correct preposition, you are in like Flynn. They’ll love you and that’s the end purpose of this course.
Here’s the correct way:
21. Carlos admira A María A CAUSA DE de su inteligencia.
22. Carlos admira A María PORQUE es inteligente.
23. Carlos sale ANTES DE terminar su trabajo
24. Carlos sale ANTES DE que Maríia llegue.
Do not use llega as llegue is subjunctive meaning she may or may not arrive.
25. Carlos lee, PERO María trabaja.
26. Carlos no estudia historia SINO literatura.
27. Carlos no lee SINO QUE trabaja.
Latinos love to use the other “but” or SINO or SINO QUE for a couple of reasons and the first one is a negative statement then followed by SINO if it’s just an adjective but if it’s a clause use a verb, a predicate verb, after a negative statement. Latinos will love you for it.
28. Todos vienen MENOS Carlos.
MENOS (less) means except. Why? It’s more Latino.
29. Carlos no lee MÄS QUE dos libros.
Latinos cherish double negatives.
30. Don Juan es el PERSONAJE más importante de la comedia.
Remember that nouns usually precede adjectives.
31. Carlos tiene el cáracter violento.

32. Carlos va río ABAJO.
33. Carlos ENTRA EN el cuarto.
