Great Investments in Infrastructure in San Juan del Sur

Greetings from stunning San Juan del Sur!

We consistently get the same question year around: “How is everything going down there?”

While some of you may have been spending too much time shoveling snow and scraping ice off of your windshield in the last few months, those of us lucky enough to be in SW Nicaragua have been enjoying beautiful breezy and sunny days.   The weather has been great, and the “tranquillo”  life, very good.

The answer to that often asked question is:  Everything is going GREAT!

The real estate market in SW Nicaragua hasn’t been this charged since 2007.  Vacation rentals are up all over the area, and sales of lots and homes is higher than any year in recent memory!  San Juan del Sur is looking very good, too, thanks to infrastructure upgrades (see articles below about the new boulevard entering town and paving of part of La Chocolata) and a concerted effort by the city to keep the streets clean.  You can’t help but feel the renewed positive energy all over town!

At RE/MAX Coastal Properties our only “complaint” is that because of the brisk market, none of us has enough time for the beach!

Green Season is approaching, which is a perfect time of the year to experience the beauty of this tropical paradise and check out the awesome investment opportunities at the same time.  Let us know when you are coming and we can assist you with local accommodations and activities in addition to showing you some  spectacular and affordable tropical investment property, that may make you want to stay forever.

Confirmed $3 Million Dollar Investment in the Expansion of the Port of San Juan del Sur!

The port of San Juan del Sur, located in Nicaragua’s pacific coast, will soon offer a new and improved infrastructure to tourists. The National authorities have announced the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will invest US$2.9 million in the expansion of the terminal. The project will begin in 2014 and will last between 14 and 16 months.

According to Rodrigo Castro, security officer of the National Port Company in San Juan del Sur, the expansion will include five new buildings, a craft market, recreational areas and commercial businesses.

Furthermore, the ability to dock at the port terminal will increase from one to four tenders (small boats used to transport cruise passengers to the ground) at the same time. This will allow cruise ships to disembark passengers more quickly, which will enable them to visit different Nicaraguan attractions more efficiently.

An Additional Kilometer of Dirt Road to be Paved by April 2014!

Even though its been a long time coming, work will begin this April on an additional kilometer of this important road (called ‘La Chocolata’) that links San Juan del Sur to many communities and the beaches of Marsella, Maderas & Majagual!   The project is being funded by both the Local and Central Government. In a regional town meeting for all the business owners and private land owners in the Northern Beach areas, City Hall (or ‘La Alcaldia’)  has called for an organized and effective work plan on the part of the private sector to help keep this road paving project going while the workers are available.
This is an epic event for the town of San Juan del Sur and Tourism, pictures to come in the near future!!  RE/MAX Coastal Proprties will post progress photos of this exciting project as it comes to fruition.

Top 10 Destinations to Watch in 2014 by CNTraveller.com

NICARAGUA – Be first to Discover Central America’s most Exciting Emerging Destination

You cannot keep a good country down. For too long beset by war, poverty, dictators and natural disaster, Nicaragua is now shaking off its misfortune and pulling itself up by the bootstraps.

Until recently, only the hardiest of travellers – the kind who carry their own bags and aren’t deterred by civil war – ventured into Nicaragua. It was hard work. The loos were horrible.

Finally, that’s changing. The government has been taking lessons from its more tourist-friendly neighbour of Costa Rica (itself a hot destination at the moment, with its cool surf towns and an amazing new Andaz hotel opening in 2014), investing in services and infrastructure, and unveiling their beautiful country to the world.

‘Nicaragua is one those countries that has it all,’ says  Rafe Stone, Nicaragua expert at Journey Latin America. ‘A dramatic volcanic range, charming colonial cities like Granada and León, and rainforests full of unusual wildlife, flanked by a rugged Pacific coast on one side and white-sand Caribbean beaches and islands on the other.’

‘No longer is it just for the backpacker – now there are some smart boutique hotels peppering the country, the latest of which is Yemaya Island Hideaway on care-free Little Corn Island [pictured], where Creole-style lobster is part of the staple diet.’
