BY Dr. Jerry Lee Hoover N.D.

Oregano is a super nutrient dense herb with amazing health benefits. It is a Mediterranean herb used for many medicinal purposes. It is also used in thousands of recipes.

According to the National Library of Medicine, oregano taken by mouth helps with asthma, allergies, bronchitis, diabetes, heart conditions, (relieves rapid heartrate & regulates blood pressure). urinary tract infections, rheumatoid arthritis, painful menstrual cramps, headaches, high cholesterol and many more.

Oregano oil used on the skin helps with acne, athlete’s foot, canker sores, wounds, warts, ringworm, parasites, psoriasis, muscle and joint pain, varicose veins and is also a good insect repellent.

Oregano contains these minerals Iron, manganese, potassium, calcium, folate, and fiber. Contains these vitamins A, B6, C, E and a large source of Vitamin K, it is also high in omega 3 fatty acids, which are so important to the human body, as it has beneficial effects to many different organs in the body.

Oregano is an antioxidant which helps kill free radicals, it is antibacterial, effective against 23 strains of bacteria which helps in fighting colds, etc. It is also antiviral, fighting herpes, and all types of viral infections. It is anti-parasitic, killing parasites, it is anti-inflammatory, which will improve many aspects of ones health, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. and oregano is anti-fungal helping to fight off candida and other fungal infections

Best way to consume oregano for medicinal use by mouth is in tea form and not in capsules. If the oregano is in powder form use two teaspoons per cup of water, if it is in bulk form use two tablespoons per cup. Use a stainless steal or porcelain pan, do not use a aluminium pan, bring the water to a boil, turn off heat add herb cover and let set 20 minutes or longer, the longer it steeps the stronger it will be.

Oregano is a member of the mint family and is easy to cultivate, it can grow in harsh conditions, it likes full sun, doesn’t like wet bottom ground, it spreads quite rapidly.

One of the reasons I decided to write an article on oregano was I have had it come up volunteer in my yard in two or three places and was curious to research all the medicinal uses of this herb. I was quite surprised to find out all the medicinal uses and learned some things I did not know. In the past I used it in cooking, but now will be using it for medicinal reasons for myself and to help others.

Conclusion

God has put on this earth millions of plants that have medicinal value which people of past centuries and our forefathers used. But in this modern age people no very little about the powerful healing effects of herbs. They have been indoctrinated in the use of drugs, which have many harmful side effects. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 100,000 Americans die from reactions to prescription drugs each year, making it the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. This does not include illegal drugs and drug over doses. Next time you have an illness, do some research on the internet for a herb that can be used instead of a drug.
