Our New Home – Week 3
When you build a new home, the first few weeks are always the most exciting since you see the walls coming up, holes being dug and lots of activity. Well, as you can see the walls are all up to some degree so it is much easier for Amy to move the imaginary furniture around in her head.
This is the end of the third week of construction and supposedly just 13 weeks to go. The other day when I visited, there were over 25 workers which was impressive, some of them were even working.
In many ways, homes here are much simpler with cement block construction and no heating/cooling ducting like the typical stick-built construction you see in the states. When Amy would fall down the stairs in the states she would put a hole in the wall but the sheet rock would cushion the impact. Here, she just bounces off the wall with no structural damage except to her body and pride.
The developer offered to pay for some of the fencing so we went ahead and fenced in the building lot. Fenced in a separate area in the back for future animals. Thinking of starting small and getting a pregnant goat and a pregnant sheep. Lot is 48 meters by 100 meters with solid posts every two varas, five strands of barbed wire and reinforced corners. Total cost of C$20,000 with high quality wire. We did not do the front part of 48 meters since that is on the road and we have not made a decision on how we want it to look from the road yet.
The structure for the water tank is in place. This next week should see the tank installed along with the piping to our home. Water looks and tastes very pure.
Here is this week’s photo updates.
