Spanish Lesson 7

LESSON-7  by George Wu
Online Spanish FOR Expats
When it comes to verbs, mama mia, excessive conjugation whereby even words are different depending upon who is doing the talking. Moreover, Spanish verbs have got too many tenses. So, for beginners, I’ve worked out a short cut.
First of all, the three most popular verb endings are ar, er. and ir. And secondly, without ruffling any feathers I am sticking to three forms: present, past, and future.
hablar=to speak
1.yo hablo
2. tu hablas
3. él habla
4. nosotros hablamos
5. ustedes hablan
6. ellos hablan
As you all know, all of them are in present tense.
7.yo hablé
8. tu hablaste
9. él habló
10. nosotros hablamos
11. ustredes hablaron
12. ellos hablaron
That’s past.
13. yo hablaré
14. tu hablarás
15. el hablará
16. nosotros hablaremos
17. ustedes hablarán
18. ellos hablarän
That’s future. él applies to usted as well.
comer-to eat
1. yo como
2. tu comes
3. él come
4. nosotros comemos
5. ustedes comen
6. ellos comen
7. yo comí
8. tu comiste
9. él come
10. nosotros comimos(not comemos)
11. ustedes comieron
12. ellos comieron
13. yo comeré
14. tu comerás
15. él comerá
16. nosotros comeremos
17. ustedes comerán
18. ellos comerán
vivir=to live
1. yo vivo
2. tu vives
3. él vive
4. nosotros vivimos
5. ustedes viven
6. ellos viven
7. yo viví
8. tu viviste
9. él vivió
10. nosotros vivimos
11. ustedes vivieron
12. ellos vivieron
13. yo viviré
14. tu vivirás
15. el vivirá
16. nosotros viviremos
17. ustedes vivirán
18. ellos viviirán
Here is the short cut.
You can use Voy a to any verb depending on when.
Voy a hablar=I am going to speak.
Fue a comer=He went to eat.
Ustedes van a vivir=You are going to live…
A simple Voy a means yes but it is present except when.
1.voy
2. vas
3.va
4.vamos
5. van
6. van
7. fui
8. fuiste
9. fue
10. fuimos
11. fuero
12. fueron
When using Voy and so on, you do not need future as Voy A is future.
Another “trick” deals with their subjunctives which drives you bananas.
Why say Si yo fuera rico, viviria en Acapulco.
You can get the same message to a Nica if you use present
Si yo soy rico, vivo en Acapulco.
Not perfect Spanish, but the guy gets the message loud and clear.
